Dear Lucie Arnaz and Desi Arnaz Jr.: When you, Lucie, were only 2, and Desi, Jr., when you were only eight months old, the event which paved the way for my family began. On Sept. 12, 1953, my parents, John Dutton and Olga Rushana were married in Owego, NY, some way east of your mother's hometown of Jamestown, NY. Like your mom, Lucille Ball, and dad, Desi Arnaz, Sr., John and Olga Dutton had 2 children in the same order: first a girl (me, Holly, in 1955), and then my brother (Ed, in 1957). For many years, my family has been simply enchanted by your parents' great achievements in entertainment, starting with "I Love Lucy" in the early 1950's. In fact, "I Love Lucy" was the first real TV comedy my mom and dad allowed my brother and me to watch. "Here's Lucy" and "The Lucy Show" provided yet more sparkling humor and enlivening enjoyment of life. Well, this week my father and mother will have something to especially celebrate. Next Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, Mom (now 70), and Dad (now 68) , will be commemorating their 50th--golden--anniversary! Last January, Mom recalled the episode of "I Love Lucy" featuring the birth of Desi Arnaz, Jr. She said it was one of the best and funniest episodes of the "I Love Lucy" comedy series, and hoped that Desi Arnaz Jr. had a nice 50th birthday on the "golden anniversary" of the show about his first day of life. Now, my family is putting the final touches on the upcoming celebration of my parents' golden anniversary next Friday. We are very proud of Mom and Dad, and are planning to show them a really good time. Olden--yes--but STILL--GOLDEN!--Holly Dutton
